ShuiDiShiChuan 2021
Material: Brick soaps
ShuiDIShiChuan is a Chinese idiom, directly translated as that “rocks penetrated by water drops”, normally referring to “constant efforts would bring success”.
This work was inspired by a visit trip back home. I saw my mom choose the brick soap instead of the liquid one when she washes little cloth things. Before the popularity of liquid soaps, the typical yellow brick soaps correlated most of the common memories for Chinese families when it comes to cleaning. Now they are over-thick, hard-to-grab, and taking extra time and strength to use. I see the sense of timing through my mom’s choice, it creates an image of how time is ticking and passing overwhelmingly.
